The Extent of Wage Discrimination for Women in the Uk Labour Market: Evidence from British Household Panel Survey
نویسنده
چکیده
The study was conducted at the School of Economics, University of Nottingham, October 2008 in Economic Data analysis module to examine the extent of wage differentials for the women who have actively participated in the UK labour market from 1991 to 2001 from British household panel survey. The extent of wage discrimination decreases with level of academic qualification. The wage differential is found to be higher in case of first degree than it is in case of Master’s degree. At workplace the women are discriminated more in case of parttime job compare to full time job. The discrimination for women declines with their association with labour union. But the women of different races including white are discriminated to the same degree against male with equal level of qualification and performance.

Gender inequalities in employment and wage-earning among internal labour migrants in Chinese cities
BACKGROUND Recent trends show an unprecedented feminisation of migration in China, triggered by the increasing demand for cheap labour in big cities and the availability of women in the labour market. These trends corroborate the evidence that non-agricultural work and remittance from urban labour migrants have become the major sources of rural household income. OBJECTIVE This paper investigate...
متن کاملIssn 1466-0814 the Uk Wage Curve: New Evidence from the British Household Panel Survey
This paper investigates the UK wage curve using longitudinal micro data drawn from the first eight waves of the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS). We estimate a fixed-effects model that controls for observed and unobserved individual-specific heterogeneity. Our results suggest that there is evidence of a negative relationship in wage-unemployment space. The estimated unemployment elasticity...

Chances are high that partners in dual-earner couples do not receive equal occupational returns from long-distance moves, because job opportunities are distributed heterogeneously in space. Which partners are more likely to receive relatively higher returns after moves? Recent research shows the stratification of returns by gender and highlights the importance of gender roles in mobility decisi...

We estimate the effects of initial labour market entry conditions on a range of subsequent job outcomes for men and women who entered the British labour market between 1991 and 2009, using data from the British Household Panel Survey and its successor Understanding Society. We find that the unemployment rate on leaving full-time education has large impacts on initial labour market outcomes incl...
متن کاملThe Uk Wage Curve: New Evidence from the British Household Panel Survey
This paper assesses the existence of a UK ‘wage curve’ to explore the role of regional unemployment in the determination of individual pay. Recent empirical research adheres to the existence of a new empirical law of economics, a stable inverse non-linear relationship between individual pay and the local unemployment rate. Critiques of this research emphasise issues concerning choice of econome...
